Distribute to Frames Flash MX 2004 Command

Posted April 12, 2004 by senocular

Here's a Flash MX 2004 command for you, Distribute to Frames. Its like distribute to layers, but works with frames. It takes all the elements in the current layer and current frame and distributes them into the frames that follow (creating new frames to facilitate the distribution).

I initially made this to distribute a collection of imported elements into individual frames. If you import files named with successive numbering in the filename, Flash will do this automatically... but what if you don't? That's where this command can come in handy.

Well, its happened. I've lost it. I've fallen into the crux of many aspiring news/bloggers - not maintaining and keeping up with updates. I'm not totally gone, but not what I was 2 months ago. With a combination of work, health issues and attempts to spend more time with my family, senocular.com suffers a little more every day.

So, for those faithful who stop by daily looking to see whats new, I thank you, but apologize. I'll try to keep up with some of the more important things and will also try my best not to be totally out of touch. If you think anything should be posted that I've missed, just let me know and I'll see what I can't do about getting it up.

The resources will certainly remain available for download. I, however, wouldn't expect anything new in terms of downloads, and updates might not be seen for a while as well (though I'll certainly fix anything you may have problems with in using extensions etc. if needs be). Things will pretty much stay the same... just slower.

TODCON and Flash in the Can

Posted April 05, 2004 by senocular

This past weekend there were two important events, one for Dreamweaver, and the other Flash. Dreamweaver had its 5th annual TODCON that was held in Orlando, FL and promised to be the largest yet. Flash, on the otherhand, had the hugely anticipated Flash in the Can Festival in Toronto. Check out the sites and other blogs for more info.

Kirupa.com Gets a Forum Facelift

Posted April 02, 2004 by senocular

The forums over at Kirupa.com have followed suite with those over at Actionscript.org and have updated to vBulletin version 3. This came not too long after a surprise April fools joke by yours truely claiming that the forums would go down due to a lack of help in maintaining them. Instead of going down, the forums got an upgrade. Not a bad deal.

Thanks to FlashMove for pointing out an easter egg in Central That plays a little Homestar Runner short. Simply open the About Macromedia Central... dialog from the Help menu in Central and click on the Central icon using Control filling in "sbemail" in the password form that appears. Press ENTER on your keyboard and you're good to go. Finally, a reason to install Central! Don't forget to click on the twinky at the end of the animation.

Fireworks Auto Shapes: Background Rectangle and Wave

Posted March 29, 2004 by senocular

Last week I mentioned I had a couple more auto shapes to release, though sadly I was unable to upload them before leaving for the weekend. Well, here they are, Background Rectangle and Wave.

The Background Rectangle auto shape is simply a rectangle that fits to the size of the canvas when its placed in your Fireworks document. This is helpful for when you need to create a background that just doesn't happen with your normal canvas color options (such as a textured bg etc.). And the Wave auto shape just creates a zig-zag or wavy line. Good for something like... scary teeth... or water... things of that nature.

Macromedia Flex Now Available

Posted March 29, 2004 by senocular

The long awaited Flex presentation server is now available from Macromedia. From the press release:
"Everyone knows the limitations of HTML for application user interfaces, but until now, there hasn't been an alternative that works for enterprise development teams," said David Mendels, senior vice president, Macromedia. "Flex is going to create a renaissance in enterprise application development."
Also be sure to check out Brady, the Flex IDE (based on Dreamweaver).

Update: I wanted to add that for a good example of what Flex can do and how to do it, see the Flex Explorer.

Flash File, MovieClip Controller, Restored

Posted March 25, 2004 by senocular

I just noticed today that a Flash file listed here on the site, MovieClip Playback Controller, was missing. I have just uploaded it, so it should be available for download now. The sad thing is, there were a lot of people attempting to get the file and failing and not telling me about it. If I had knew, I could have gotten it up sooner! ;)

Revolve Path Fireworks Autoshape

Posted March 25, 2004 by senocular

This auto shape, Revolve Path, is much like the Mirror Path auto shape except that this works through rotating (or revolving) the path around a center as opposed to mirroring the path around it. Word of caution: use of this auto shape maye lead to Metallica-esque imagery.

This is close to the last autoshape I have offer at this point in time. I've gotten most of them up in the past week and only have 1 or 2 more left (I will probably get the last one up tomorrow). Next I'll work on getting some more of my commands uploaded. I will post them as they are added.
